A high density interweaving hemp and extra long staple organic cotton. Highly water resistant and decently breathable, with a dense structure and crisp handfeel. Ventile calls this stuff Ventile Eco Hemp, but we prefer Hempmarine. Either way it brings fine hemp yarns into the rarefied world of Ventile. Originally developed during World War 2, Ventile is the pinnacle of cotton as a performance fabric. Woven so densely that cotton seals itself up when wet, it requires special looms and a well calibrated mix of high twist and low twist yarns.

As the name implies Hempmarine brings hemp into the mix, the warp is still GOTS certified organic cotton, but the weft is replaced with hemp fibers. The water resistance goes down a touch (from 800mm to 600mm water column) but the breathability goes up while the handfeel gets a bit more textured. Like almost all contemporary versions of Ventile there is also a fluorocarbon/PFC-free (F0) DWR treatment added for an extra layer of water resistance. It clocks in at 210gsm, just a touch more than the classic Supermarine Ventile is woven in Switzerland and performs beautifully the world over.
