A cotton contemplating nothingness. Any lighter and this fabric might disappear. At 80gsm it’s by far the lightest knit we’ve ever used. The secret is the corespun yarn, 70% cotton by weight, wrapped tightly around a fine nylon filament and enzyme basted to burn away any fuzzy flyaways. Knit in Italy by Brugnoli, these yarns are used to create a jersey that is hyper-light yet robustly durable for its weight. The handfeel is dry and almost starchy but also nearly weightless and impossibly breathable. Visually it’s not really a gauze but it’s on the way there, with a light translucency that provides a rather sultry amount of coverage. At UPF 5 in Black it provides rather modest sun protection as well.
